With Halloween just around the corner I wanted to add a few decorative touches around the house since we are once again pumped about the countdown to trick or treating in person after staying safe at home last year.

I already had this simple fall centrepiece on our dining room table that I made a few years ago and came up with a quick and easy hack to take it from fall fabulous to fabulously frightful in just a few simple steps.

The original fall centrepiece was made using mini plastic pumpkins and gourds, some faux foliage and dried wheat sheaths from the dollar and craft supply stores. A metal bin got a quick coat of a gold metallic spray paint and then I randomly tucked all of the elements into a floral foam base with gourds scattered throughout.

This simple display sits on our dining table for the fall months with a classic black and white buffalo check table runner underneath. It even takes centre stage on our Thanksgiving table.

It will just takes a few bits and bobs to transform this fall foliage into a frightful feast for the eyes. A few glittery skulls, some black feathers and felt spider web placements all picked up rather inexpensively at the craft supply and dollar store.

First things first, these gourds have got to go! I won’t pull them all out, as I’ll leave some for filler.

It’s out with the squash and in with a sparkly skull. I was particularly drawn to this pack that includes both gold and black skulls. A bit of glam goth seems perfectly appropriate for this occasion.

Once the skulls are happily nestled in place, I distribute the black feathers throughout.

The plaid table runner is put away and in its place I lay four felt cut spider web placemats end to end to create the illusion of a table runner.

Spellbinding isn’t it. Okay, okay no one is calling House & Home magazine here, but it does the trick and this simple hack was a treat to pull off.
